China Suppliers Factory Epoxy Ballast Tank Anti-Corrosion Paint (Solvent-Based) for Marine Protection
Product Features
-
Excellent corrosion resistance, capable of resisting the erosion of harsh marine environments such as seawater, salt spray, and humidity for a long time.
-
Excellent adhesion, with extremely strong adhesion to steel plates after sandblasting treatment (such as Sa2.5 grade).
-
Good resistance to cathodic disbonding, compatible with ship cathodic protection systems, and less prone to blistering or spalling due to electrochemical effects.
-
High-solids, low-VOC (for some products) — although solvent-based, the formula tends to be high-solids to reduce volatile organic compound emissions.
-
Wear-resistant and impact-resistant, capable of withstanding water flow scouring and mechanical stress during the loading/unloading process.
Recommended Use
Used for internal corrosion protection of conventional ship ballast tanks, it offers excellent cost-performance ratio.

Application
- Airless spraying
- Nozzle pressure: 14 MPa – 21 MPa
- Nozzle hole diameter: 0.6 mm – 0.8 mm
- If spraying work is terminated, the spraying equipment should be cleaned immediately to prevent paint from remaining in the hose, spray gun or spraying equipment, thereby avoiding the solidification of residual paint inside the spraying equipment.
- Remove oil, grease and other contaminants with a suitable cleaning agent.
- High-pressure water cleaning removes salt, detergents and other contaminants.
- Repair and maintenance surface treatment to P3 (ISO 8501-3).
- Remove dust, sand and loose materials.
- Surface condition (G) (ISO 8503-2).
- During construction and curing, the surface temperature of the substrate must be maintained appropriately.
- To avoid condensation, the substrate temperature during construction should be at least 3°C [5°F] higher than the dew point.
- During construction, the product temperature must be above 15°C [59°F].
- The relative humidity during construction and curing processes must be less than 85%.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
Q
What makes this coating suitable for ship ballast tanks?
This coating is specifically designed for the internal corrosion protection of ship ballast tanks. It offers excellent resistance to seawater, salt spray, and humidity, along with strong adhesion to sandblasted steel surfaces (Sa2.5 grade), making it highly reliable for long-term marine use.
Q
What surface preparation is required before applying this coating?
The surface must be thoroughly cleaned to remove oil, grease, salt, and other contaminants using a suitable cleaning agent and high-pressure water washing. Surface treatment should meet P3 standard (ISO 8501-3), and the surface profile should meet condition (G) per ISO 8503-2. All dust, sand, and loose materials must also be removed.
Q
What are the recommended application conditions for this product?
The product should be applied when the substrate temperature is at least 3°C [5°F] above the dew point, the product temperature is above 15°C [59°F], and relative humidity is below 85%. These conditions must be maintained throughout both application and curing.
Q
How long is the pot life of this coating, and how should mixed material be handled?
At 20°C, the pot life is 4 hours. The mixing ratio is main agent to curing agent at 2.5:1 by volume. Once mixed, the product must be used within the pot life. If spraying is interrupted, all equipment including hoses and spray guns must be cleaned immediately to prevent curing inside the equipment.
Q
Is this coating compatible with cathodic protection systems used on ships?
Yes. This coating has good resistance to cathodic disbonding and is fully compatible with ship cathodic protection systems. It is less prone to blistering or spalling caused by electrochemical effects, ensuring long-term performance in protected marine structures.
Q
What is the shelf life and storage requirement for this product?
The product has a storage period of 24 months when stored at 25°C. It is recommended to store the product in its original sealed containers in a cool, dry location away from direct sunlight and sources of ignition, given its flash point of 39°C [102°F].
